Split Rock Lodge and the nearby Hazzard ski hill made up the club. Hazzard Ski Area was renamed Big Boulder Ski Area when the lodge was sold in 1947. It was Pennsylvania's first official ski resort. The lessons learned from Big Boulder laid the foundation for a well-planned ski resort when Jack Frost debuted in 1972. All of the necessary slopes, lifts, structures, and snowmaking infrastructure were designed as part of the initial building. Big Boulder Ski Area's sister resort today is Jack Frost Ski Area.
