The Wayne County Agriculture Society, which lay the foundation for this cherished occasion 160 years ago, is to thank you for the Wayne County Fair's long history, which you may explore by going back in time. Since its modest origins, the fair has grown into a massive spectacle and, in 1862, became a formal entity. Finding enough land to accommodate several events and a large number of people proved to be the first difficult task. A beautiful half-mile track was built when 22 acres of gorgeous land along the Dyberry River were purchased in 1862.
The fair rapidly outgrown its initial speed-trial course as it thrived, forcing a significant change in 1902 as a result. The fair's standing as a leading agricultural event was enhanced by the relocation of the events to a better, more spacious grandstand. Instead of resting on their laurels, the fair's organizers started another construction project in 1931, converting the stadium to accommodate up to 2000 fervent visitors. This recently remodeled venue entertained guests in addition to welcoming them to watch spectacular harness racing and livestock events.
The Wayne County Fair is still an annual spectacular that represents family fun, delectable cuisine, and top-notch entertainment today, 160 years after it first began. Up to 100,000 people visit the fairgrounds every summer, loving the chance to take part in the ideal fusion of agriculture and fun that has made the Wayne County Fair a treasured institution.
